Who this agreement covers
The unified Métallurgie convention (IDCC 3248) merged the sector's former regional and national texts into a single agreement covering France's metalworking and engineering industry: foundries, machining, automotive and aerospace suppliers, electronics and metal fabrication, from production operators and technicians to engineers and cadres. Its distinguishing feature is a sector-specific premium for exceptional Sunday work and work on public holidays, each paid at 100 percent on top of the base rate, over and above the general rising overtime scale built on the 35-hour reference week.

How overtime and hours work
The unified Métallurgie convention applies the 35-hour statutory reference week. Weekly working time is capped at 48 hours in absolute terms, with a 44-hour average over any 12 consecutive weeks, and daily hours are limited to 10 within a 13-hour span. A minimum of 11 consecutive hours of daily rest is required between shifts. Overtime is paid at a rising premium: hours from 36 to 43 carry a 25 percent premium, and hours from 44 onward carry 50 percent, with an annual quota of 220 hours. Exceptional Sunday work and work on public holidays are both paid at a 100 percent premium under this agreement.
A 46-hour week under Métallurgie
A machine operator works 46 hours in a busy production week off the 35-hour reference. The eleven extra hours cross both overtime bands.
The annual overtime quota is 220 hours per employee. Any of these hours falling on an exceptional Sunday or a public holiday are instead paid at the sector's 100 percent premium.
